avid Surdam is Professor of Economics and David W. Wilson Business Ethics Fellow at the University of Northern Iowa.  

He writes extensively about the economics of professional team sports (The Big Leagues Go to Washington, University of Illinois Press), the America Civil War (Northern Naval Superiority and the Economics of the American Civil War, University of South Carolina Press), and leisure during twentieth-century America (Century of the Leisured Masses, Oxford University Press). He is currently working on a survey of business history throughout history. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago, writing his dissertation under Nobel-Prize Winner in Economics, Robert W. Fogel.
